Lovebirds for 70 Years & Still Going Strong

Norm had his eye on Dotty in high school. She knew things were getting serious when he invited her home for lunch to meet his mom, a first for Norm. Soon he was walking her past jewelry store windows asking, “Which one do you like?” The ring and the proposal came on Christmas, and the Cobbs were married by a justice of the peace on New Year’s Eve 1949.

A romance that started when Norm and Dotty were just 17 has endured 70 years, four children, a series of multi-state moves and so much more. The Cobbs came to Springbrooke three years ago after a quarter of a century at The Villages residential community in Florida. The couple chose Denver to be closer to three out of their four children, grown grandchildren and even great-grandchildren. Springbrooke serves as a central meeting place for the Cobbs’ many family celebrations.

The secret to 70 years of marriage? A sense of humor, confirms Dotty, followed by, “I just love him.”

“Springbrooke is small and homey, so you get to know everyone across independent, assisted and memory care communities. The staff treats us as family, and the residents treat each other that way, too. We’ve made many friends here!”

Combatting the Holiday Blues

Combatting the Holiday Blues

The holiday season should bring joy, but for many older adults it’s often tinged with sadness. The loss of spouses, isolation, lack of family rituals and health concerns can lead to depression. Being aware of changes in mood and behavior, plus having an active plan, can help seniors feel joyful throughout the holidays.
